It was a medal haul for India’s team at the just concluded Lagos Badminton Classic took place at the Sir Okoya Thomas Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium from Tuesday 25th to 29th July 2017.
The Men’s Single final witnessed India’s Chittaboina Rahul Yadaw seeded 4th defeat seventh seed Karan Rajan Rajarajan 2 – 0 ( 21-15, 21 -13 ) , thereby winning the gold medals and was presented the very sort after men’s single champion trophy. In third place was Ghana’s Emmanuel Yaw Donkow.
In the Women’s Single final, Sri Lanka’s Thilini PraHendahwa Hendehewa beat 4th seed Ghana’s Mugha Aggrey 2 – 0 ( 21-13, 21 -19 ) and won the gold medal and women single’s champion Trophy while her opponent received the silver medal. 8 seed and Nigeria’s Dorcas Ajoke Adesokan recieved the bronze medal.
In the Men’s Doubles event, the combined team of Manu Attiri And Reddy Sumeeth defeated Godwin Olufua and Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyeri 2 – 0 ( 21 – 13, 21 -15 ) and won the men’s double gold medal with their opponent recieving the silver medal.
In the Women’s Doubles final match, Thilini PraHendahwa Hendehewa and Ishadika Kavidi defeated Zainab Momoh and Ramatu Yokubu 2- 0 ( 21-8, 21 -5 ) to win the gold medal with their opponent recieving silver medal.
In the Mixed(Combined) Doubles finals, despite losing their first game 2nd seed Misha Zilberman and Svetiana Zilberman defeated the hard fighting 4th seed, Duarte Nuno Anjo (4) and Sofia Setion 2-1 (20-22, 21 -16, 21 – 7) to win the gold medal. The silver medal went to their opponent.
Amongst the organizations and individuals presented with special recognition plaques for their support for event and Badminton included the Lagos state Governor, Zenith Bank and Smile Communication.
