The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) announced the postponement of the 2021 AFN Trials which was scheduled to hold from March 29th to 30th in Port-Harcourt, Rivers state
The federation explained in a tweet that interference was the reason for the postponement.
“It’s unfortunate that despite judgments from the Federal High Court and Appeal.”
In a press release signed by the Director General , SY Pepple, the Federation stated
“The judgement of a federal high court sitting in Abuja in suit no PHC/ABJ/CS/113/2020 of 1st July, 2020 wherein Hon. Engr. Ibrahim Shehu-Gusau was proclaimed the president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) contrary to Mr Nelson’s letter,”
In defense of the decision for the postponement of the AFN trials, the press release further noted
“I am further directed to inform all athletics stakeholders that appropriate legal steps are being taken to address the various issues arising from the disobedience of court judgements. It is pertinent to state that the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR has consistently reiterated the commitment to the rule of law, with zero tolerance for impunity as being displayed by these civil and public officers”
Replying to AFN tweet, Adeyemo Anjola @aanjie said Buhh when is this federation going to get things right…. just 2 days to an event.. do you know you’re disrupting alot of athletes plans and schedules, even with some financial implications…some have even book their flights and all… too bad
