CC-7 shines at Maersk Chinese Badminton Tournament
China National Chemical Engineering No7 construction Co Ltd (CC-7) were the dominant team at the maiden edition of the Maersk Chinese Badminton Tournament held at the Indoor sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium.
The tournament which was sponsored by the global shipping integrator for the Chinese entrepreneur community in Lagos saw players from over seven Chinese companies compete for honours in four categories as they where cheered by colleagues, friends, families and members of the Chinese diplomatic community.
She Haijun won the ultimate prize after beating his team mate Fang Zhi Peng in the men singles final by two straight sets.Jur had won the first set by 21-17 and he was cruising on in the second set by 19-8 before the game was stopped after his opponent Peng could not continue due to a muscle pull during the energy sapping encounter.
She Haijun also combined well with his female team mate Hu Zhi Hui to win the mixed double category against opposition from Lekki Free Zone, CCECC, WAHUM and CWAY teams.
His stand out performance as the only player that featured in the final of all the categories i n the badminton event was the talking point.He was asked whether he had played the game as a professional at some point,
“I played the game well in the University and it is a dream to win today”
Asked whether he was not under any pressure to win more next time and he said
” I am under pressure already to win next event”.
Anoop Kumar, the Sale Director for Central and West Africa for Maersk who represented the event sponsors revealed that the event was organised to appreciate the Chinese community as the major clientelle base of Maersk
“The Chinese community is our largest customer base and we decided to appreciate them for being with us over the years”
Lagos State Badminton Association (LSBA) also benefitted from the tournament as the sponsors donated 30 Badminton Rackets, 20 shuttles and 3 Nets to the association,a gesture which was received by the Chairman of the technical committee of the association Samson Egbeyemi.
