CHRISLAND COLLEGE HOLD  CHRISLAND SOCCER FIESTA.

The 5th edition of the Chrisland Soccer fiesta held on Saturday 20th May  2017  at the sports center of Chrisland College, Idimu. The football event is part of the numerous school programmes organised by Chrisland schools to develop school sports on a inter-school basis.

The activities of the day which was scheduled to start at 10.00am was threatened by the the heavy down pour of rain which forced the event organizers to initially cancel the event but had to change that decision after due consultation. The event eventually commenced at  about 1.30 pm.

Amongst the 15 schools comprising 12 secondary and 3 primary schools who participated in the keenly contested matches included Emerald College, Pacific Comprehensive College Shasha, Woodland School, Loral School, White Sand Sch Lekki, Doregos Private Academy International School Ipaja, Trinity College, Corona Secondary Sch Agbara, The Bells Comprehensive Secondary School Otta, New Hall School, Chrisland High School Ikeja and Chrisland College Idimu. Grange left the venue because of the rain.

The primary school event was organizeed as a round-robin competition amongst the 3 participating schools that included Chrisland School VGC, St Bernadette Ipaja, and Supreme Educational Foundation. Chrisland School Ipaja won with 3 points, 2nd was St Bernadette with 2 points and 3rd was Supreme Educational with 1 point.

The secondary school category featured 7-aside knockout matches with a 50minutes time limit.

The final match was an all Chrisland event between Chrisland High School, Ikeja and Chrisland College Idimu that ended in a 1 – 1 draw while Trinity College, Ofada and Pacific Comprehensive College, Shasha took 3rd position and 4th position.

To get to the finals, Chrisland College Idimu beat Pacific Comprehensive College 4-2 on penalty after missing many scoring chances in the match that ended scoreless in the semi final, while in the quarter finals they beat New Hall    0 – 1.

Meanwhile, it was jubilation for the fans and students of Chrisland High Sch, Ikeja who beat Trinity College, Ofada 1 – 0 in the semi’s and Loral School 0 – 1 in the quarter finals.

In an interview with asentv.tv, Mr Adekunle Issac, head coach of Chrisland Schools said;

”This is the 5th edition of the event which is a success. We experienced a similar down pour last year wher we had 8 secondary schools and 1 primary school in attendance. This event has 12 secondary and 3 primary participating. This represent a make improvement because of the facilities that Chrisland college now has in place. This sports complex, the Tartan track, the pavilion etc. Careful planning made it a success”

KJYSports, a program dedicated to promoting school sports  was at the event for the recording of the interview with Mrs Maduabuchi-David Martha Ijeoma, principal Chrisland as  the Guest of Week.
