Yesterday’s Opening game of the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Club Qualifiers at the Indoor Sport Hall of the National Stadium,Surulere , between Mark Mentors Basketball Club and Kano Pillars was a scintillating encounter .
Kano Pillars overcame Mark Mentors with 76 balls as against 69 of the latter, at the final quarter of the game to win the first game of the qualifiers but what was worrisome and sympathetic is the numeric strength of the Mentors , Nevertheless , Coach Dauda gave his lad a resounding remarks.
” it was a good game and am very proud of the defence , the players gave out their best .”
The Coach also acknowledged Kano Pillars as a worthy Winner and gave reasons for his side’s below bar performance during the interview session with Journalists.
“Kano Pillars were the better side technically , we could have gotten a lot of opportunity if we had our full squad . we had clearance issues with FIBA.I don’t know why FIBA didn’t clear all our players after following due process. I am using this forum to plead with FIBA to clear the rest of our players. if by tomorrow (today) we are not cleared that will be a big problem.”
The coach also raised concerned about the health of his players if FIBA doesn’t clear them before their next games.
” The rules is that players should have enough rest before their next game otherwise it will affect their well being and our next game.”
Mark Mentors will be playing their next game on Tuesday by 5pm against ASPAC of Togo while Kano Pillars’ next game will be against another Nigerian side , Civil Defence of Abuja by 3pm of the same day .
