Former Super Eagles player Waidi Akanni has commended GTBank for its continuous sponsorship of the Principals Cup in Lagos State and some other states of the federation.
Waidi Akanni, an erstwhile Chairman of Lagos State Football Association was part of dignitaries that graced the semi finals of the football event at the Onikan Stadium where young male and female students from secondary shools in Lagos showcase their football talents to their teeming supporters and football enthusiasts.
The Ex International who was a product of grassroots football developmental programme like the GTBank Principals Cup believes the future of Nigeria’s football lies in programmes that encourages discovery of talents at the schools.
“I am really happy with what GTBank is doing and with this kind of programme we can discover talent and develop our football”.
Akanni also want attention to be given to the area of coaching the young talents which will go along way to help improve the standard of play.
“I will also want the organisers to look into the area of coaching beacause that will help the student alot,I don’t know how the games masters/misteresses are trained these days but we need to improve in the area of youth training”.
Another Ex international who was a beneficiary of the robust youth programmes in time past, Tajudeen Disu who is now involved in so many developmental project gave a thumbs up to the organisers for the competition which focuses on football and education.
“Using education to develop talents is what thrills me about this project because I have seen ex footballers who were talented but did not end well because they lack the requisite education to back their talent and that is what am advocating now,especially in every project am involved in”.
The finals of both Boys and Girls categories of the competition will be played at the Onikan Stadium,Lagos Island on the 30th of May,2017.
