What a performance from Gary Anderson to make it back-to-back Dubai Darts Masters crowns.
The Team Unicorn ace produced some dazzling darts in the desert to beat Michael van Gerwen 11-7 in a quality final. Anderson averaged just shy of 111 with the Dutchman on 110.46
He has beaten Phil Taylor a.k.a The Power, Peter Wright a.k.a Snake Bite and Van Gerwen with some real quality. In the final Gary hit 12 x 180s!
“I relish playing against the very best. Michael is the best and I just knew that I wasn’t going to be beaten. We have had some great games over the years and that was another!” he said.
The pair hit three maximums each in the first three legs! Van Gerwen claimed a valuable break of throw to lead 3-2. In the sixth leg Anderson hit back-to-back 180s but missed one dart at D4 and the World No.1 held sway.
Van Gerwen then missed ‘tops’ for a 6-3 advantage and that was the signal for Anderson who was magnificent. He hit an eighth 180 and 11 darter to break back for five apiece and went on a run of winning six legs out of seven.
Two more 180s and two 12 dart legs, including an 84 finish on the bull saw the Unicorn star go into a 9-6 lead.
The Dutchman got one leg back before another Anderson 11 darter took him to the brink and after three missed Van Gerwen doubles, the Scot nailed D4 to complete a fabulous victory.
“I thoroughly enjoy the World Series and I am in it to win. You forget you’re playing outdoors and just get on with it. And I look forward to having a real go in Shanghai and Las Vegas,” Anderson said.
In the semi-finals, Anderson edged out Wright in a real thriller. Despite a scrappy start, Anderson put the foot on the gas with a run of six legs from seven to lead 7-3. There was a superb 141 finish, before Wright hit back. He won four legs out of five and missed darts to square the match at 9-9 before another Anderson 180 took him to victory 11-8.
