Homat Comprehensive College Ikorodu topped the medals table at the end of the first Lagos Secondary Schools Relays Championship held at theTeslim Balogun Stadium Surulere, Lagos.
The three day event organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission was designed to discover new talents and keep secondary schools in the state busy with sporting activities and to commemorate Lagos at 50.
According to the Special adviser to the Lagos State Governor on sports and Chairman, Lagos state Sports commission,Mr Deji Tinubu the event is one of many that the commission is working on to improve the fortune of the state in the area of sports.
“The relays are the exciting part of any athletics event and we are developing this and other sports properties that the corporate world can leverage on and also keep the school sports alive”.
Homat Comprehensive School won the 4x 200M girls final with a time 1:51:5 secs leaving Surulere Girls Secondary School in the second spot with 1:51:8 secs while Ipakodo Senior High School finished in third spot with 1:54:9 secs.
In the 4x200M boys the Ikorodu based college finished atop with a time of 1:33:2 secs,Chrisland School Idimu came second with a time of 1:35:5 secs leaving Euba College at the third place with a time of 1:37:3 secs.
Homat continued their medal haul in the 4x400M boys final finishing ahead of the rest with a time of 3:32:6 secs while Federal Government College,Ijanikin came second with a time of 3:32:6 secs,Baptist Academy Obanikoro,Lagos finished as the third best with a time of 3:39:2 secs.
The 4x400M girls final was also an opportunity for Homat Comprehensive College to show they were not tired of winning as they won it with a time of 4:16:2 secs,leaving Ipakodo Senior High school in second place with a time of 4:24:9 secs while Government Senior High school,Agege finished in the third spot with a time of 4:30:5 secs.
In a chat with Asentv.tv the head coach of Homat Comprehensive, Mrs Olapade Lawal said she is not surprised about the performance of her athletes because they prepared well for the championship.
“I am not surprise at what our athletes have been able to do here today because hardwork in training is what is showing,rather I will push those who were unable to win in the other event harder in order for them to win next time”.
Surulere Senior Girls won the 4x100M girls final in 52:6:0 secs leaving Homat Comprehensive in second place with a time of 53:0:00 sec and Chrisland college Idimu in third place with 53:4:00 secs.
In the 4x100M boys final Baptist Academy Obanikoro blaze thetrail with 44:6:00 secs,Chrisland College Idimu came second with 45:7:00 secs and the third spot was occupied by Euba College with a time of 46:0:00 secs.
