Over 5000 schools participated in the 2017 COPA Coca cola U-15 football Championship which started in April 2017 at the local government level before moving to the state, to the regional, and the finals at the national.
It was an action packed finals between Progress Comprehensive High School Osun State and Owerri City College, Imo State as both teams excited spectators with their mastery of the round leather game. At the end of the match, the lone goal from the lads from Osun State gave them victory over their Imo state opponent; thereby winning the finals of the 2017 edition of the Copa Coca-Cola tournament that held at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos Island. With this victory Progress Comprehensive High School, Osun State was crowned Copa Coca-Cola champions
Both teams put up a strong spirited fight for the trophy, the prize money, and the Education Trust Fund, but in the end, the Osun boys were able to defend the lone goal at the final blast of the whistle, thus giving them a 1-0 win.
The match had in attendance top officials from the Federal Government, Lagos State government, the National School Sports Federation (NSSF), Staff of Coca-Cola and former Super Eagles captains Jay Jay Okocha and Kanu Nwankwo,
Progress Comprehensive High School received One Million Naira, a soccer field built by Coca Cola and all the players are to receive scholarships. Owerri City College and Government College Kastina were also rewarded by Coca coca.

And personally, this has been the most rewarding of all the GOPA Coca Cola events we have executed in the past, Why? Because, we have seen the years of investing in developing soccer at the grass root, and that is coming to fusion in such a way that it is a climax”.
Speaking with Soji Omoigui, Senior Brand Manager, she said: “The aim of COPA Coca cola is to contribute to the development of grass root football. At the end of the day, these teenagers are the future leaders. As part of COPA, they have been exposed to training from ex-internationals who have played in different clubs all over the world”.
