Queens College,Akoka continued her reign as the champion of the GTBank Masters Cup after trouncing Ansar Ud Deen Girls High School,Itire 2-0 to lift the coveted trophy and a cheque of Seven hundred and fifty thousand (750,000) naira.
Striker Chioma Mbionwu scored in the 23rd minute of the first half after the girls from Akoka had tried to make a lot of incursion into the goal area of their opponent but were unable to make all the attacking foray count until captain Dolapo Ariori who was also voted as the most valuable player of the tournament played a corner kick which Mbionwu connected perfectly into the net to create a rapturous uproar from the expectant supporters of the defending champions comprising parents and friends who have made a tradition of coming to cheer up their wards in the GTBank Masters Cup.
Mbionwu put the game to bed after she made it two in the 17th minute of the second half as the Ansar Ud Deen Girls made fruitless effort to create a come back with their talismanic striker Abiola Ayinla tamed all through the encounter.
First runner up Ansar Ud Deen Girls high School went home with a cheque of Five hundred thousand (500,000) naira only while the second runner up Ansar Ud Deen College,Isolo got a cheque of Three hundred and fifty (350,000) naira only.
This years event is the season 5 of the GTBank Masters Cup and Queens College has remained a force in the Girls football category after seeing off strong opposition from International School,Lagos in the quarter finals and Greensprings School in the semi finals.
