Reality show continues to remain amongst the favourite content on Nigeria television today. “The Voice Nigeria” began its live event stage with the first 16 contestants of the 32 after the completion of the second, blind stage and third, the battle stage. The screening process required the contestants to participate in a two stage screening thereafter the successful contestants moved to the final live show.
In the blind stage, the contestants were required to choose a preferred trainer by performing before Timi Dakolo, Waje, Yemi Alade and Patoranking who acted as both judges and team trainers.
“The battle” stage saw the contestants competing in pairs against each other while the team trainer is required choose a winner.
Now, the Voice Nigeria entered the live show and we have witnessed the magnificent and energetic performances of the first sixteen contestants with ace anchor Ikponmwosa Osakioduwa a.k.a IK acting as show anchor and MC. IK who has anchored several events including the prestigious “Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria” (MBGN) and Big Brother. While, Stephanie Coker who just got married about two weeks ago anchored the Social Media correspondent studio.
Patoranking, the reggae and the dance hall crooner had his team first on the list to perform. From team patoranking, ‘Kessydriz” performed Tina Tona’s song. “Afolayan” performed Nigeria’s finest musicians Psquare’s “e no easy” track that did very well on the chart when it was newly released. “Hightee” performed Lawren Hill’s song that captivated the attention of the coaches so much that Patoranking eventually picked her for the team ticket to the next round. And, Voke performed Reekado Banks’ song “Ladies and Gentlemen”
Yemi Alade, the “Looking for Johnny” crooner white and black dress with her round wide collar attire, left so many viewers with mixed reactions because of the awkward design of her dress. Her team was the second to perform.
For team Yemi Alade, Chris Rio performed the heart breaking song ”stitches” that excited the coaches with his performance and interpretation of the song. Ifeoma nervously performed a song by Andrew titled “rise up” that got her team’s coach impressed, Jahnomso performed “show me love” with enthusiasm and Bunmi performed and did justice to the song by ASA, the multitalented musician’s and guitarist. Despite the obvious flaws in Ifeoma’s performance, Yemi Alade picked her as the win of the “Team Yemi Alade” ticket.
Waje who was gorgeously dressed, and was full of endless smile, laughter and excitement was impressed by the performance of her team comprising Efeseano, Gloria, Favour and Wow. Efezeano performed “ Rocaby” with enthusiasm and energy even though we can comfortably argued that she could have done better with that song. Gloria sang Adele’s record breaking song; a song with several covers by Nigerian artists “Hello”. The song that made her to emerge the winner in her team, peradventure her emergence as the winner is because her older brother is a celebrity who is popularly known as Terry G. Favour performed Tiwa savage’s “All Over’ a song that topped the chat for a very long time. Wow performed a song titled “get down on it” by Cool and the gang and he wowed the audience at the show. His original interpretation got people thinking, as though he was the one that wrote the song, He was simply amazing. He was supposed to emerge the winner.
Timi Dakolo in his magnificent Niger Delta attire fully representing his origin as an Ijaw from the South-South region of Nigeria. TeamTimi comprised Bada, Amarachi, Wole and Precious. Bada delivery of the Sean Kingston’s song “Beautiful girl” was emotive and very passionate with his presentation of the rose flower to Waje a sweet icing to the cake; making it more melodramatic. Waje could not hold herself but got on her feet full of laughter. Amarachi was simply amazing on the stage with her performance. Wole performed a popular song by Brymo titled “ara mbe” and was able to stir the viewers up with the amazing track. Precious who struggled throughout his performance was selected by Timi as the winner of the team thereby making one to question the music intelligence of the coaches
Our hope is that viewers can save Bada and Wow who in our opinion showed greater talent than other contestants selected or preferred by the coach.
