The World Pool-Billiard Association has announced it’s takeover of the governing right of the sports of Heyball (a.k.a Chinese 8 Ball Pool) that was formerly governed by the International Heyball Pool Association.
The development was announced through a post on the WPA official Facebook page that stated as follows;
“We are thrilled to announce that Heyball has transitioned from a pool code governed by an Affiliated International Federation to a discipline directly overseen by the WPA! 🎱✨
Heyball is now officially recognized as a WPA discipline, underscoring its growing popularity and significance within the global pool community. This move reflects our dedication to supporting emerging pool sports.
WPA President Ishaun Singh remarked, “We are delighted to welcome Heyball as a directly governed discipline under the WPA. This transition marks a significant milestone for the sport, highlighting its increasing global popularity and competitive standards. We look forward to collaborating with the Advisory Council to further develop and promote Heyball on the world stage.”
The new Advisory Council for Heyball will include appointed members who will aid in governing the discipline. WPA Directors may also serve as members, ensuring Heyball benefits from the extensive experience and expertise within our leadership. The Board, in consultation with Continental Members, will appoint members and establish procedural rules for the Council.
Heyball’s unique gameplay, featuring tables with rounded pockets and napped cloth, has captivated players and fans, particularly in China. Major Heyball tournaments offer some of the largest prize money in pool, showcasing the sport’s prominence and potential for growth.
Since 1987, the WPA has been the governing body for pool sports, promoting and developing various pool disciplines worldwide. With Heyball now directly governed, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering diversity and excellence in pool sports.”
In 2020, the International Heyball Pool Association (IHPA) received it’s WPA recognition as the governing body for the Heyball worldwide. The status of Heyball (i.e. Chinese Pool) changes to an official Pool discipline in Pool as a global sport that is as a result of the successful partnership between Joy Billiard Sports Promotion Company based in China and the WPA coupled with the release of the schedule of the 2024 Joy Heyball Calendar.
