2024 Joy Heyball Masters participant in China , Adekunle Adebayo defeated Waheed Afolabi to emerge the winner of the Challenge match 9 – 2 in a race to 9 racks to see the winner breaks in 2 hr. time limit at the Heyball Challenge Tour, August edition organized by Fourteen75 and Snooker Arena in partnership with the Snooker and Pool Players Alliance.
The event held on Sunday, 11th August 2024 at the Fourteen75 Pool and Snooker Arena, Akure witness an exciting and entertaining display of cue craft in the presence of highly engrossed pool community.
The sporting event also coincided with the birthday of the President of the Snooker and Pool Players Alliance (SPPA) Idada Joachim who was presented with a cake by the management of Fourteen75 on behalf of all their members, noting that the presentation was a show of appreciation to Idada for the vison and commitment his has shown towards the growth of Pool-Billiard as a sport and the welfare of players in Nigeria.
In response Mr Idada said
“I am surprised by the kind gesture, love and recognition as I was not expecting anything of this nature. The SPPA remains committed towards growing Pool Billiard as sports by ensuring we build and put in place the right structure that will sustain the growth of the sport in Nigeria. We had proposed and implementing a 5 years plan that will produce at least one Nigerian who can effectively compete at the international Level but we achieve that in 2 years. Now we the focused is on sustainability and competence development which the Challenge Tour Series Is intended to drive”.
The main event started at 6.30pm with the fans waiting patiently in the fully packed arena as the SPPA President introduced both players.
First was Adebayo with a 2.8 cum. BPAv who sat at the left corner of the table then the Challenger Waheed Afolabi with 5.4 BPAv to the right.
To be eligible for selection to feature in the Challenge tour, participants must feature in at least 3 Break and Run Shootout Challenge and must be amongst the players with the least Cum. BPAv as at the time of selection. BPAv (Break Point Average), is an index used to indicate the assessment test result that measures the probability for a players to record a win after a Breaking sequence in a Rack.
The introduction of the Break and Run Shootout Challenge by the Snooker and Pool Players Alliance was to stimulate the player’s interests in continuous training following the poor performances recorded by Nigerian players in the Joy Heyball Masters Div One and Super-Tour that holds in China.
Adekunle Adebayo who so far has the best BPAv have beating the likes of Ekundayo Sunday, Lawani Nosayaba, Toyin Azeez and Abiodun Christopher (a.k.a Emiratae) as he remains unbeaten in the Challenge Tour.
Adebayo who was the winner of the 2024 Joy Heyball Masters’ Tour I Nigeria Qualifier’s participated in both the Div One and Super-Tour of the Joy Heyball Masters that held the in the City of Shijiazhuang, China where he was unable to break the one match win record set by Bamidele Shehu -who remains the only player from Nigeria among the the three players that have represented the country- to have won a match in the international event.
Following his victory, Adekunle Adebayo walked away with N40,000.00 plus an additional N20,000.00 secure bonus for been the players with the higher BPAv while Waheed received N20,000.00 which was presented by Mr Benjamin Salako of Guiness Nigeria, Mr David Segun and Mr Joachim Idada, President Snooker and Pool Players Alliance. The Challenge Series offers a maximum prize fund of N200,000.00 for matches that feature at least one participants having a below 2.00 BPAv.
The annual Joy Heyball Masters organized by the Joy Billiards Sports Promotion Company, China comprise five (5) events held as a Tour that include international qualifiers and the main event designated as a Super Tour.
Each year the season starts with the Joy Heyball Masters Grand Finals then followed by 4 additional events held in different cities in China.
